Who do you control?
Midgar identifies Eline as the only playable character. Ysoris and Kanta assist during exploration and combat; the demo announcement describes triggering ally attacks while building combos and dodging. Their presence does not establish freely switching the controlled character.
The developer says Edge of Eternity is not required to follow this story. Exact companion unlocks, cooldowns and input prompts remain unverified.
