Before you start
- Install the current update and record your platform and installed build. Frozen Trail 2.0 is the update label; Kingy has not read a native build number.
- You need internet access, an Embark ID and your platform account. Check the offer on the listed platform; the free-play announcement does not list Epic.
Is free play still available?
The announced window is October 8, 2026 at 09:00 UTC through October 12 at 08:00 UTC. It covers the full game on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation, with a €0.25 fee for PS5 in Germany. The end time is October 12 at 01:00 PDT in Vancouver and Los Angeles. Check access before arranging a session.
New players can enter Pendola Pass immediately when teamed with someone who has already unlocked it. A solo newcomer should check their own available maps. Free access does not establish a tested beginner route or a permanent free license.

Before leaving Speranza
Kingy’s suggested first objective is one completed extraction with a small haul. Choose gear you can afford to lose and check the current healing and interaction controls before departure. Embark’s older official overview describes Free Loadouts as an option when supplies are low; follow your current menu for availability and contents.
Agree with teammates that returning is the priority. Avoid adding an unfamiliar map unlock, a quest chain and high-value loot chase to the same first attempt. This is preparation advice, rather than a tested loadout or difficulty guarantee.
- Record the platform, installed version and input preset.
- Check the loadout and current heal, map and interaction prompts.
- Agree on the goal and how the team will decide to leave.

Identify an exit before collecting more loot
Use your current map to find an available extraction, then keep that exit in mind while scavenging. Embark’s prelaunch extraction article explains that main exits attract ARC and other Raiders, and that available exits diminish during a session. It also describes key-based Raider Hatches. Those design notes do not establish every 2.0 exit, timing or Hatch Key cost.
For a first run, choose returning with what you have over extending an unfamiliar route. Check the exit’s current availability and interaction prompt when you arrive. Continue until the game confirms the return to Speranza; reaching a map marker alone is not evidence of successful extraction. Kingy has not verified a fixed path, extraction countdown or guaranteed hatch access.
- Read the available exit and match it to the environment.
- Recheck availability before committing the team to it.
- Follow the displayed extraction prompt and remain alert to machines and other players.
- After returning, check what reached your inventory and record the result.

Cargo warnings in Frozen Trail 2.0
The current English notes say the Hydra can detect and shoot players through Cargo walls without being able to deal damage. That wording is narrower than a claim of damaging wall shots. It does not establish that Cargo is safe from other attacks or hazards.
Separately, standing beside the Cargo drop can instantly eliminate a player; Embark says a fix is in development. Keep clear of its sides for this beginner attempt. The notes do not give a safe clearance distance, alternative route or fixed-build confirmation. Kingy has not tested a workaround.
| Issue | Official scope | Practical limit |
|---|---|---|
| Hydra wall shots | Detects/shoots through Cargo walls; current English notes say no damage | Do not infer general safety |
| Beside Cargo drop | Possible instant elimination; fix in development | Avoid its sides; no tested safe distance |

If the attempt fails, record what happened
Keep the map, platform, version and last visible action with your notes. Distinguish a normal combat loss from a known bug rather than assume every elimination came from Cargo. If Field Repair is unavailable after unlocking, the 2.0 notes suggest restarting the game; that is a specific remedy for that feature, not recovery of a lost raid.
A useful follow-up demonstration must show the build label, starting loadout, exit choice and complete extraction outcome, including any failure. No Kingy gameplay capture or tested safe route is supplied here.
