Quick answer

Install Steam Hotfix 1.3.0.6 or a later build before retrying your October 8–12 free-weekend world. The developer reports a fix for trial players being unable to enter a world. Back up your save folder first and reopen the same world; deleting it or changing its files is not part of the announced fix. Two players report recovery, but Kingy has not tested reopening.

Before you start

  • This guide covers the October 8–12, 2026 Steam Free Weekend world-entry issue.
  • Record your installed game version, world name and exact error before changing anything.
1

Why a new trial world may be labelled Classic

The linked Steam thread describes a newly created world becoming inaccessible after quitting and reopening the game. A developer reply acknowledges that some worlds were incorrectly identified as Classic during the free weekend. That error alone does not establish that the world was deleted or that purchasing the game is the repair.

The October 9 patch note reports a Steam Free Weekend world-entry fix in 1.3.0.6. It does not prescribe editing a world flag, renaming a save or starting over.

Back up your saves before the retry

Close Core Keeper, then copy the entire Steam-ID save folder to a separate backup location, including its backups folder. Keep the original folder in place. These paths come from the developer's pinned FAQ; replace the Steam ID with your own.

Keep an untouched copy before any diagnostic retry. Do not delete the world, overwrite it with an older backup or change file contents on the assumption that the error proves corruption.

Update, then reopen the same world

These are checks to perform on your own save, not a Kingy-tested recovery walkthrough. Before filming instructions as a demonstrated repair, capture the installed build, the same world, its retained content and the reopening outcome. If entry still fails, preserve the backup and report the exact error through the developer's linked bug-report form.

  1. Let Steam finish the available update, relaunch Core Keeper and record the installed version/build. Confirm 1.3.0.6 or later rather than infer it from the patch announcement.
  2. Select the existing world that failed. Keep its name and slot in the record so a newly created world cannot be mistaken for recovery.
  3. If it loads, check a familiar landmark, structure or inventory detail. Record what is present and what is missing.
  4. Quit normally and reopen the same world once more to check that it remains accessible. Keep the untouched backup even if both attempts succeed.

What the recovery reports establish

After a developer asked for feedback on the released patch, sawyergrubert and blackbeing reported that the issue was fixed for them. Neither report supplies a complete installed-build and platform record. Treat them as community reports of successful entry, not proof that every trial world is recoverable.

Kingy has not captured 1.3.0.6, reopened an affected save or verified retained progress. The patch's scope is world entry for Steam trial players; deleted saves, corruption, cloud conflicts and unrelated multiplayer failures need separate evidence.

When the free weekend ends

The official trial runs October 8–12, 2026. The announcement says the game and save data remain in your Steam library afterward so you can continue if you purchase it. Expired trial access is a different condition from the world-entry bug during the trial. This announcement does not state an exact end hour; check Steam's current access notice.
